Vinnie Allegretta scored his very first top 5 finish in the Trans Am Road Racing Series with a 4th place finish at historic Road America Raceway in Elkhart Lake, WI.
The 4th place finish was also the first time he was able to finish in the top 10 in consecutive races after a 6th place at Mid Ohio Sports Car Course.
There were a lot of firsts happening for Allegretta at Road America. It was his first time to the legendary road course. The race ran in the rain and it was his first Trans Am Race in the rain. That he was able to work with that and with a new TA Sights Chevy Corvette was very satisfying.
“First time there. First time in the rain. First top 5. I am amazed.” Allegretta said.
The 4th place finish bumps Vinnie into the top 10 in points and he continues to hold a commanding lead in points among rookies.
At Mid Ohio two weeks before Allegretta had brought an untested brand new TA class Corvette to the big race. After some new car bugs were worked out he became progressively more competitive as the weekend developed. In the end a 6th place finish was sweetened by running the fastest lap of the race. For Road America, learning the new car continued as well as learning a new race track. “I spent the first session on the test day getting to know the car a bit better and learn the track. By the second session we were pretty fast already.” he said.
“For the official practice we ended up 4th quick. I thought things were going about as well as you could expect.”
